Geology	Applegarth Scar(s) comprise two seperate cliffs (Scars) seperated by a sloping terrace. The Lower Scar is formed from The Main Limestone outcropping as a fine sheer well vegetated cliff with scree and vegetated talus slope below. The Upper Cliff and the sloping Terrace between these two cliffs,are formed from Richmond Chert Strata.
Record Name	Applegarth Scar, West. Limestone woodland on and below two cliffs. The lower and more prominent cliff formed by the Main Limestone, the Upper formed by Richmond Cherts.
Record Description	Limestone ashwood with yews dominant on the lower cliff and on the talus slopes below with a scattered population of large leafed limes, mainly large old coppiced trees, growing both on the face and top edge of the lower cliff formed by the Main Limestone. The woodland on the Lower Cliff will be described first, followed by the woodland on the Upper Scar and the terrace between the two Scars. Other tree species present here include: Ash, oak, wych elm, hazel, elder, bird cherry
Dimensions	The woodlands on Applegarth Scar West extend for a distance of approximately 800m in length

Additional Notes	These woodlands are Private, however they can be seen from the access road to West Applegarth Farm, which is also on the Coast to Coast Footpath. The writer is indebted to Mr Harker for access to this fine cliff and for permission to record the woodland and trees.
